Fat dissolving injections are a cosmetic treatment in which a solution is injected into small, diet-resistant pockets of fat to help the body break down stored fat. At Skin Anatomy in Southwell, Nottinghamshire, we use Lemon Bottle, a cosmetic product rather than a licensed medicine, for the chin, tummy and arms. It is not weight loss.
Most of us have an area that seems to hold on to fat however carefully we eat and exercise, whether that is a soft double chin, a lower tummy pouch, love handles or the backs of the arms. Fat dissolving injections are designed for exactly these small, localised pockets. They are not a way to lose weight, and they work best for people who are already close to a stable, healthy weight and want to refine one particular contour.
At Skin Anatomy we use Lemon Bottle, a fat dissolving solution whose manufacturer lists riboflavin (vitamin B2), lecithin and bromelain, an enzyme found in pineapple, among its ingredients. According to the manufacturer, the formula supports the breakdown of fat by enhancing fat-cell metabolism, and the released fat is then processed and cleared through the body's normal pathways over the following weeks.
We believe you should know exactly what you are choosing. Lemon Bottle is a cosmetic product, not a licensed medicine, and the scientific evidence behind it is more limited than for licensed treatments. Results vary considerably between individuals, several sessions are usually needed, and some people see only a modest change. We explain this at every free consultation and suggest alternatives, such as EMS body sculpting or Endolaser, where they may suit you better.
When fat in the treated area is reduced, the improvement is long-lasting as long as your weight stays stable. Significant weight gain can cause the remaining fat cells to enlarge again, so the treatment works best alongside a balanced diet and regular activity. Clients visit our Southwell clinic from Newark-on-Trent, Mansfield and Nottingham for treatment of the chin, abdomen, waist, arms, thighs and buttocks.
After your consultation and medical questionnaire, we photograph and measure the area and mark the points to be treated. Numbing cream is applied beforehand for comfort. The Lemon Bottle solution is then injected into the fat layer with a fine needle, in a pattern planned to cover the pocket of fat evenly. The treatment itself usually takes around 30 minutes, depending on the size of the area, and most clients return to their normal day straight afterwards.
Fat dissolving injections offer a non-surgical way to target a specific area that has not responded to diet and exercise, with no general anaesthetic, no incisions and minimal downtime. A single area can be treated in a short appointment. Over a course of sessions, many clients notice a smoother, more refined contour, and when weight stays stable the change is long-lasting. It can also be combined with EMS body sculpting to tone the muscle beneath.
Swelling, redness, warmth and tenderness in the treated area are common and are part of the body's response to the solution. Bruising, itching and temporary lumps under the skin can also occur and usually settle within days to a couple of weeks. Less commonly, infection, prolonged swelling or an allergic reaction may occur. Because Lemon Bottle is not a licensed medicine, long-term data is limited. We explain all of this before you consent, and you are never under pressure to go ahead.
There is little or no downtime, and most clients return to work the same day. Swelling is usually most noticeable in the first two to three days, especially under the chin, so you may wish to plan around important events. Drink plenty of water, avoid alcohol, saunas and intense exercise for 24 to 48 hours, and follow any massage advice we give. Some clients notice a change within a couple of weeks, with results building over the course.
Contact the clinic promptly if swelling, pain or redness is getting worse rather than better after the first few days, if the area feels hot or produces discharge, if you develop a fever, or if a lump is hard, painful or growing. Please also let us know about any rash or itching that spreads beyond the treated area. If you notice swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, or have any difficulty breathing, call 999 immediately.

Treatments are for adults aged 18 and over. We check your medical history at your consultation and will always tell you honestly if a treatment isn’t right for you.
We confirm which areas are suitable for you at your free consultation.
We begin with a free, face-to-face consultation in Southwell. We talk through your goals, check your medical history and examine the area to judge whether the concern is fat, loose skin or both. We explain honestly what Lemon Bottle can and cannot do, how many sessions you may need and which alternatives might suit you better.
Keep well hydrated in the days before your appointment and avoid alcohol for 24 hours. If you bruise easily, we may suggest avoiding supplements such as fish oil beforehand, but never stop prescribed medication without speaking to your GP. Wear comfortable, loose clothing that allows easy access to the area being treated.
We take photographs and measurements, cleanse the skin, apply numbing cream and mark the injection points. The solution is then placed into the fat layer with a fine needle. The appointment usually takes around 30 minutes, and you leave with written aftercare advice and a clear plan for your next session.
Swelling and tenderness are normal for a few days. We check in with you after treatment and see you again a few weeks later, when we compare photographs and measurements and decide together whether a further session is worthwhile. Results build over the course, and we never recommend more sessions than you need.

Lemon Bottle is a cosmetic fat dissolving solution. Its manufacturer lists ingredients including riboflavin (vitamin B2), lecithin and bromelain, and states that the formula supports the breakdown of fat by enhancing fat-cell metabolism. It is not a licensed medicine, and independent clinical evidence is more limited than for licensed treatments, so we take care to set realistic expectations. Every client is assessed individually, and we only treat when we believe it is appropriate for you.
Every treatment starts with a free, no-obligation consultation. Prices include VAT; where a price is shown as “from”, your exact cost depends on your assessment and is confirmed before you book.
