Stubborn Fat & Double Chin
Understanding stubborn fat & double chin
Stubborn fat is mostly shaped by genetics, hormones and age, which decide where the body stores fat and which areas resist diet and exercise. At Skin Anatomy in Southwell we offer Lemon Bottle fat dissolving injections for small pockets, EMS body sculpting to tone muscle, and Endolaser to tighten and define a double chin. None are weight-loss treatments.
Where your body stores fat is largely decided by your genes and hormones. Many people who are a healthy weight still carry fullness under the chin, on the lower tummy, around the waist or on the inner thighs that does not shift with exercise. Hormonal changes during pregnancy and the menopause can move fat towards the tummy, and with age the skin and muscle that hold everything in place become less firm, making small pockets more noticeable.
Non-surgical body contouring is designed for these small, specific areas, not for weight loss. Fat dissolving injections aim to break down fat cells in a targeted area; EMS body sculpting uses electromagnetic energy to make muscles contract intensely, improving tone and firmness; and Endolaser uses a fine laser fibre under the skin to tighten and define areas such as the jawline and under the chin. Each works differently, and the right choice depends on whether the concern is fat, muscle tone, loose skin or a mix.
The best candidates are close to their ideal weight, have realistic expectations and are happy to maintain a healthy lifestyle, because remaining fat cells can still expand if weight goes up. At your free consultation we assess the area, check the thickness of the fat and the quality of the skin, and talk honestly about what each option can achieve. If treatment is unlikely to give you the change you want, we will tell you. All treatments are for adults aged 18 and over.

What causes stubborn fat & double chin?
- Genetics, which decide where your body prefers to store fat
- Hormonal changes, including pregnancy and menopause
- Age-related slowing of metabolism and loss of muscle
- Weakened abdominal muscles, for example after pregnancy
- Stress and poor sleep, which influence fat storage
- Looser skin and a softer jawline that make a double chin more visible
Everyone’s skin is different. At your free consultation we look at the likely causes of your concern, and your medical history, before recommending anything.
Treatments for stubborn fat & double chin
Many clients get the best results from a combination of treatments. We recommend a plan only after a free, no-obligation consultation — and we will tell you honestly what improvement is realistic.
Lemon Bottle is a cosmetic fat-dissolving solution containing riboflavin, lecithin and bromelain, injected into small pockets of fat such as the chin, tummy, love handles, arms, thighs and buttocks. Treatment takes around 30 minutes. It is not a licensed medicine, the evidence is still limited and results vary, so a course of sessions may be recommended. Expect temporary swelling, tenderness or bruising. It is not suitable during pregnancy and is not a weight-loss treatment.
EMS body sculpting uses HIFEM technology to trigger around 20,000 supramaximal muscle contractions in a 30-minute session, according to the manufacturer. This works and strengthens the abdominals, buttocks, arms, thighs and hamstrings, helping those areas look firmer and more defined. You lie comfortably while the device works and can return to normal activities straight away. A course of sessions is usually recommended, and results are best maintained with regular exercise.
For a double chin or softening jawline, Endolaser uses a very fine laser fibre placed under the skin to tighten tissue and stimulate collagen. It suits mild to moderate fullness and laxity rather than large amounts of fat. Initial tightening can be seen within days, with continued improvement over 8 to 12 weeks and final results at 3 to 6 months. Expect swelling for 3 to 7 days, possible bruising and tightness for up to 2 weeks.
