Frequently Asked Questions
Booking & consultations
How to book, what happens at a consultation and where to find us.
How do I book an appointment at Skin Anatomy?
You can book online in a few minutes on our booking page, call or WhatsApp us on 07777 711 277, or send a message through our contact page. Online, you choose a treatment, pick a date and time, and add your details — we then email you straight away.
Are consultations free?
Yes — consultations at Skin Anatomy are free and there is no obligation to go ahead with treatment. It is time to talk through your concerns and goals, check a treatment is suitable and safe for you, and understand the likely results, downtime and cost before you decide.
Do I need a consultation before my treatment?
For most treatments, yes. Prescription-only treatments such as anti-wrinkle injections need a face-to-face consultation with a prescriber before your first treatment, and injectables, CO2 laser and Endolaser always begin with an assessment of your medical history and skin. For some simpler treatments we can hold the consultation and treatment on the same day if it is appropriate.
How long does a consultation take?
Allow around 30 minutes for a consultation. Laser hair removal and laser tattoo removal also need a short patch test before your first full session, which we can usually arrange at the same visit.
Where is Skin Anatomy?
Skin Anatomy is at 17 Queen Street, Southwell, Nottinghamshire NG25 0AA, in the centre of Southwell — between Nottingham, Mansfield and Newark-on-Trent. Our contact page has a map, directions and travel notes from nearby towns.
Safety, qualifications & regulation
Who treats you, the rules we follow and how we keep treatments safe.
Who will carry out my treatment?
Treatments are carried out by our trained aesthetic team, led by Magdalena Wasiewicz, Founder & Lead Aesthetic Practitioner. Magdalena is fully qualified to the highest level in aesthetic practice and is currently studying medicine. You are always welcome to ask about your practitioner's training and experience.
Are aesthetic treatments regulated in the UK?
Some parts are regulated, and more regulation is coming. Anti-wrinkle injections use a prescription-only medicine, so they can only be given after a face-to-face consultation with a prescriber, and it is illegal in England to give anti-wrinkle injections or dermal fillers for cosmetic purposes to anyone under 18. The Government has also announced plans for a licensing scheme for non-surgical cosmetic procedures in England, using powers in the Health and Care Act 2022. The details and timescales are still being finalised, and we will meet the requirements as they come into force.
Why do you only treat adults aged 18 and over?
Because the law and our clinic policy both require it. The Botulinum Toxin and Cosmetic Fillers (Children) Act 2021 makes it an offence to give these treatments for cosmetic purposes to under-18s in England, and Skin Anatomy applies the same age limit to every treatment we offer. That is why we ask for your date of birth when you book, and we may ask to see photo ID.
Which products and devices do you use?
We use established, medical-grade products and devices, including the SmartXEL CO2 fractional laser, TargetCool skin cooling, CE-marked hyaluronic acid fillers and E50 exosomes. At your consultation we will explain which product we recommend for you and why.
What are the risks of aesthetic treatments?
Every treatment carries some risk, from common, short-lived effects such as redness, swelling and bruising to rare complications, and these differ between treatments. Before you consent we explain the specific risks, what is normal afterwards and what to watch for — and we will not treat you if a treatment is not safe or appropriate for you.
Can you check whether my mole is safe?
No — we do not diagnose moles or skin cancer. If a mole is new, changing in size, shape or colour, bleeding, itchy or looks unusual, please see your GP first. We only remove skin tags and lesions that have been assessed as benign.
Treatments & results
Choosing a treatment and what to expect from it.
Which treatment is right for me?
The right treatment depends on your skin, your concerns, your medical history and how much downtime you can have, so the best place to start is a free consultation. You can also browse our treatments and skin concerns to see what might help.
How long do results last?
It depends on the treatment and on you. As a guide, anti-wrinkle injections typically last around three to four months, hyaluronic acid fillers often last between six and eighteen months depending on the area and product, and CO2 laser results continue to develop for several months as new collagen forms. Individual results vary, and we will give you a realistic expectation at your consultation.
Do the treatments hurt?
Most clients find treatments very manageable, although comfort varies from person to person and between treatments. We use numbing cream where appropriate and TargetCool skin cooling during injectable treatments to help keep you comfortable, and we will talk you through each step.
How many sessions will I need?
Some treatments need a single session, while others work best as a course. Laser hair removal and laser tattoo removal, for example, usually need several sessions spaced weeks apart. We will recommend a plan and give you the full cost before you start.
Is there any downtime after treatment?
Downtime ranges from almost none to a week or more, depending on the treatment. Anti-wrinkle injections and skin boosters usually involve little more than possible redness or small bruises, whereas CO2 laser resurfacing typically needs several days of recovery at home. We will brief you properly on downtime before you book.
Can I have treatment if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
We do not offer most aesthetic treatments, including injectables and laser, during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Please tell us if you are, or might be, pregnant and we will advise when it is appropriate to book.
Aftercare
Looking after your skin and getting help if you need it.
Will I be given aftercare advice?
Yes. Before you leave, your practitioner will explain the aftercare for your treatment and give you written instructions, including what is normal, what to avoid and when to contact us.
What should I avoid after treatment?
It depends on the treatment, but common advice includes avoiding make-up, strenuous exercise, saunas, alcohol and sun exposure for a short period afterwards. Your practitioner will tell you exactly what to avoid, and for how long, for your treatment.
When will I see results?
Some results are visible straight away and others build gradually. Fillers show an immediate change that settles over about two weeks, anti-wrinkle injections usually take effect within two weeks, and collagen-stimulating treatments such as CO2 laser and polynucleotides improve over several months. Individual results vary.
Is a review appointment included?
A two-week review is included with anti-wrinkle injections, so we can check how your result has settled. For other treatments we will arrange follow-up appointments where they are needed.
What should I do if I am worried after my treatment?
Contact us straight away on 07777 711 277 or by WhatsApp and we will advise you and see you if needed. If you have severe or worsening pain, spreading redness, skin turning pale or dusky, any change in your vision, or signs of an allergic reaction, seek urgent medical help by calling 999 or going to A&E, then let us know.
Prices & payments
What treatments cost and how to pay.
How much do treatments cost?
Our prices are listed in our price guide, and consultations are free. Because many treatments are tailored to you, we confirm the exact cost at your consultation before any treatment goes ahead.
Are the prices on your website the full price?
Yes — the prices in our price guide are the amount you pay. Where a price starts with “from”, the final cost depends on the area treated or the amount of product needed, and we will always confirm it with you before treatment.
When do I pay for my treatment?
You pay at the clinic — no payment is taken when you book on our website. For some longer or specialist appointments we may ask for a deposit to secure your booking, and we will always tell you before your appointment is confirmed.
How can I pay?
We accept debit and credit cards, cash and bank transfer at the clinic. You will receive an invoice or receipt for every payment.
Shop & orders
Skincare products, delivery, returns and gift vouchers.
Do you deliver skincare products across the UK?
Yes — we deliver to addresses in mainland UK, and the delivery cost is shown at checkout before you pay. Our Delivery & Returns page explains dispatch times and delivery options.
Can I collect my order from the clinic?
Yes — choose click & collect at checkout and collect your order from 17 Queen Street, Southwell, Nottinghamshire NG25 0AA once we let you know it is ready. You can pay online or pay when you collect.
Can I return a product I bought online?
Yes, you can cancel your order and return unused products within 14 days of delivery for a refund. For hygiene reasons, sealed skincare and cosmetic products cannot be returned once the seal is broken unless they are faulty, and your rights for faulty goods are not affected. See how to return an item.
How do Skin Anatomy gift vouchers work?
Gift vouchers are sent by email and can be used towards treatments or skincare at Skin Anatomy. A treatment paid for with a voucher still needs a consultation, must be suitable for the recipient, and is only available to adults aged 18 and over. Validity and terms are set out on our Delivery & Returns page.
Which skincare products are right for my skin?
We are happy to advise — ask at your consultation, send us a message or call 07777 711 277. If you are having or have just had a treatment, or you have a skin condition, check with us before starting new active products, and always patch test a new product first.
Privacy & your data
How we protect your health information and your choices about marketing.
Why do you ask for my medical history?
We need your medical history to check that a treatment is safe for you. It is health information, which UK data protection law treats as special category data, so we keep it confidential, store it securely and use it only to provide and manage your care.
Will you take photographs of me?
We take clinical photographs before and after many treatments to plan your care and track your results, and they are kept in your confidential clinical record. We never use your photographs on our website or social media without your separate, explicit consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
How long do you keep my records?
We keep adult clinical records for 8 years after your last treatment, in line with UK healthcare record-keeping guidance. Enquiries that do not lead to treatment are deleted after 12 months. Our privacy policy sets out every retention period.
Can I see, correct or delete my personal data?
Yes. You can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it where the law allows, by emailing info@skin-anatomy.co.uk or using the privacy page in your account. We respond within one month.
Will you send me marketing?
Only if you opt in. Marketing emails and text messages are separate, unticked choices when you book or contact us, you can unsubscribe at any time, and saying no never affects your care or your appointment messages.
